They All Sang My Songs

Starting with "Play Fiddle Play" in 1933, I've been writing lyrics and composing music for over seven decades! While this is not my entire catalogue of songs, listed below in alphabetical order are most of the songs that are still being performed today. Just click on a song title to get to that song's information page — complete with listings of major recordings, appearances in movies and complete publisher credits — as well as hear the first 8 bars of the song!

Also note the little book icon (The Story Behind The Song) next to some of my songs. That icon indicates there's a Story Behind The Song — a behind-the-scenes peek at what was going on when that song was being written. Enjoy!

I've had a few letters from Maritime Service men asking me to call attention to the words and music I wrote as a LT.JG.titled HEAVE HO, MY LADS, HEAVE HO! This was adopted as the official U.S. Maritime Service song, has been used in a few films, . e.JACK LONDON and is played and sung annually on U.S. MARITIME DAY. It has also been recorded by the U.S. Maritime Band in a few different versions.
